Vector Architects has transformed a 60’s sugar mill in China’s mountainous Yangshuo County into a resort hotel featuring a group of gabled masonry structures designed to complement the existing industrial architecture. The guest rooms were built using hollow concrete blocks and board-formed concrete. Vector Architects designed the new buildings with a simple elegance, limiting distraction from the old sugar mill.

The muted color palette of the resort is strikingly complemented by the rich green of the dramatic landscape. The most impressive thing about this building is a sculptural bamboo structure at the central cavern.
