“Desire ebbs & flows, it evolves. And wears off, too…”

Pathé in France has revealed the first official trailer for the new take on Emmanuelle, an erotic drama inspired by Emmanuelle Arsan’s beloved novel. It was already adapted once before into a film in 1974, also titled Emmanuelle, though this is a fresh vision.

From the Golden Lion winning filmmaker of Happening comes a new Emmanuelle, starring the French actress Noémie Merlant as the woman on a trip to Hong Kong exploring her sexual desires.

Loosely adapted from Arsan’s novel, director Audrey Diwan’s film follows merlant as the titular character, along with a cast which also includes Naomi Watts, Will Sharpe, Jamie Campbell Bower, Chacha Huang, Anthony Wong, among others.

The film is expected to premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain this fall.
