Following the tradition of many years, the magnificent park of the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este, created again this year an exclusive stage for the “catwalk” of the historic cars that took part in the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023. Ominous four-wheelers from private collections from a bygone era were present at the event, captivating the eyes of the attendees. The “Best of Show” title was won by a 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster built by Gurney Nutting. Duesenberg is a historic automaker as in the 1930s it was honored to be driven by popular celebrities such as Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Greta Garbo, James Cagney and many other stars. In addition to the award, the winner selected by the jury received a unique watch in white gold, created by A. Lange und Söhne especially for this event, as a gift. In contrast, the admiration of the audience at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the winner of the Gold Cup was the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California, following a vote; it was thus awarded the Gold Cup. At this year’s event, the trophy for the “Song of the Engine”, awarded to the most beautiful symphonic sound of an engine, was presented for the first time. It was won by Belgian Christophe Count d’Ansembourg, thanks to his 1970 Porsche 917K.
