In the “Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye” collection, a series of travel books, American photographer Slim Aarons’ unique archives in the book “Italian Rivieras By Slim Aarons” reveal images of the Italian Riviera from another era. Aarons, who boasted that he only photographed attractive people doing special things in unique places, was naturally drawn to this idyllic corner of Italy. His images of iconic places like Portofino and Cinque Terre in the 1970s and ’80s offer what many argue is a tantalising glimpse into the golden age of cinema. “Slim” – as he was nicknamed – built his reputation for his carefree clicks with celebrities, aristocrats and Hollywood stars. Over the course of several days spent at Cinecittà, Europe’s largest film production complex, he captures shared moments between iconic actors of the era – from Marcello Mastroianni to Romy Schneider, interspersed with shots of anonymous people he meets on the beach.
