The interiors are every inch a classic Moroccan riad, but Izza Marrakech also gives guests a hefty side serving of contemporary art and culture in the heart of the Medina.

Each of the Marrakech hotel’s 14 rooms, which start from around €165 per night, are designed as tributes to big names from the world of culture, such as Grace Jones, Allen Ginsberg and Marella Agnelli.

And when guests aren’t relaxing in their suites – or one of Izza’s three courtyards – they can browse the hotel’s on-site ‘Museum in the Medina’, created as a revolving showcase of contemporary art and featuring over 300 physical and digital works.

Local craft heritage also has its place in the interiors, which are outfitted with pieces designed and made locally, including metal lanterns, etched notebooks and Babouche slippers.

Up on the hotel rooftop, guests can order a cocktail and look out across the Medina – or, for those seeking a quieter evening, there’s a tiny downstairs tea salon with hand-carved walls.
