Born in 1938, this Alfa Romeo has lived quite a life all across the world.

Of eight long-chassis 8C 2900B Lungo Spiders made, only five are known to exist. The example here was shipped to Egypt and its first owner, Major Raymond Flower, proprietor of the Cairo Motor Company. The car was raced for a short time, passing through several hands until taking Best of Show at the 1996 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este following a major restoration.

Then it became part of the late Oscar Davis’ collection in 1998. In 2022, the car was on its way to be restored in Maine, when it and the transport were stolen at a hotel in South Carolina. The FBI tracked down the car over the course of a year and recovered it largely intact. Noted restorer Mike Regalia recently finished a restoration just in time for Gooding & Co.’s Pebble Beach auction. This Alfa Romeo is expected to sell for $16 million.
