Fouquet’s journey began far from the world of fashion. Originally from France, born in 1983 in New York City and raised in southwestern France and Florida, he majored in environmental science in college before his creative instincts led him to hatmaking. After graduating, he moved to Patagonia and then to Australia. He later settled in Venice, California, where he took classes in pattern making and design. In 2013, he founded his own brand in a… garage in Los Angeles.
His approach to design is unconventional and deeply personal. Each creation incorporates sustainable materials and features Fouquet’s trademark matchsticks, which are placed on the hat’s ribbons – a playful yet functional touch. He is heavily influenced by his travel experiences and draws inspiration from American Western clothing, Native American art and 1960s counterculture. His hats are a blend of rugged Americana and Parisian style, with a touch of rock-and-roll attitude.
He sources high-quality materials from around the world, crafting hats that tell stories of wanderlust, adventure and individual expression. His designs have garnered a loyal following, and his pieces are worn by celebrities, musicians, and connoisseurs around the world.
The designer’s studio in Venice Beach is part workshop and part art gallery. The space is filled with vintage furniture, artist’s work, and mementos from his travels, creating an environment that reflects his eclectic style. His hats are crafted with attention to detail, using techniques like hand-dyeing, distressing, and burning, which give each piece a unique, worn character. They are more than just fashion items—they are wearable art, each one bearing the personality of the craftsman who made it.
