Bowlus Airstream

The Bowlus Road Chief is even cooler than the most Americana airstreams and it’s here, again.

The original Road Chief dates back to the 1930s and was created by Hawley Bowlus, the aviation designer who brought us the Spirit of St. Louis. Just 80 were built before World War II, when the company ceased production. John Long and Helena Mitchell then bought the rights and patents and released a new version of the 1935 Vintage Bowlus Travel Trailer.

It has a vintage vibe, but the interior is thoroughly modern, with features like Wi-Fi and solar panels. There is a bathroom, an electric stove, two single beds that can be converted to a king size, lashing points for carrying kayaks and paddle boards, polycarbonate seat fabric and an awning.
