Rolex made roughly 14,000 reference 6239 Daytonas between 1963 and 1969. Of those, only 300 were cased in 18K yellow gold, and even fewer sported the black and gold John Player Special colorway.

This one is rarer still, with a metal bezel instead of the more common black acrylic of the 6241. It was recently serviced by Rolex, but the case, bracelet, and dial were left untouched. It goes under the hammer in New York via Phillips.
