In 2019, Ben Chanan wrote and directed a mystery thriller, where the protagonist is… the so called deepfakes / tampered videos. Those who were lucky enough to watch it on the BBC frequency in the United Kingdom, come to the same conclusion. It is the #1 British political thriller, with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for the first season and a little more for the second one. The moment when Netflix decided to buy the rights and show it on its platform coincides with the appearance of videos from the route of the commercial train that collided with the passenger train in Tempi. The theory of the tampered video was immediately heard. The “fix”, as it is called in the television series, may not be just a product of our imagination. Special software now allows the manipulation of images and the creation of new ones. Nothing is as it seems and everything can appear as it is not. Systematic series hunters will probably have discovered Elisabeth Grainger from the police adventure “Strike”, also by the B.B.C. In “The Capture” she reveals her unparalleled acting talent, especially when she looks without speaking. For his part, Chanan does not let us take a breath, with the constant twists and turns not only of human situations, but also of the editing of the videos. To avoid misunderstanding, the television work is a product of fiction and has no relation to government agencies that “correct” bad texts.
