The Peasants

“The Peasants” is the latest film from Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated directors DK Welchman & Hugh Welchman. Following the success of their previous film, “Loving Vincent,” which grossed $42 million at the box office, The Peasants was created with the same painting technique that won the hearts of fans around the world. The story is based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel by Wladyslaw Reymont.

The film tells the story of Jagna, a young woman determined to forge her own path within the strict confines of a late 19th century Polish village – a hotbed of gossip and ongoing strife, held together, rich and poor, with pride for their land, adherence to colorful traditions and a deep-rooted patriarchy.

“After years of working on a film about Vincent Van Gogh I felt a strong need to tell a story about women: to show their struggles, their passion and their strength.” – Dorota Kobiela, Writer / Director.
