Greenland is a huge island. The world’s largest non-continental island, in fact. Almost 80% of its land is covered by ice and glaciers and the latest scientific research shows that the ice cover could be more than 400 thousand years old. Since 2003, the vast northeast Greenland ice sheet has been losing more than 10 billion tons of ice each year, according to a recent study. Photos of extraordinary beauty should not make us complacent.
